FAQ for Upgraders from mSuite 4.x

Print this Topic Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

Our recommended approach for migration from an existing mSuite 4.x system to mSuite 5 is to install a new mSuite 5 installation and then migrate the users with supported devices from the old system to the new system.

Version 5 of mSuite currently supports the following device types:

Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone
Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC
Windows Mobile 6 Standard
Windows Mobile 6 Professional
Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard
Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional
Windows Mobile 6.5 Standard
Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional
Nokia Symbian 9.1 Series 60 3rd Edition
Exchange ActiveSync enabled devices:
Apple iPhone/iPod Touch note 1
Palm Pre/Pixi note 1
Android note 2
Nokia 'Mail for Exchange' on Symbian S60 3rd and 5th editions note 3
Windows Mobile 6.1/6.5 note 4
Windows Phone 7 note 5

1 Requires mSuite 5.08 or later.

2 Requires mSuite 5.12 or later.

3 Requires mSuite 5.10 or later.

4 Requires mSuite 5.15 or later.

5 Requires mSuite 5.16 or later.

To migrate Windows Mobile devices from mSuite 4 to mSuite5 "over the air", a utility is available from Windows Mobile Migration Tool.  This utility can be imported into your mSuite 4.x system and then deployed by the mSuite4 server to your Windows Mobile device community.  Optionally it can be pre-configured with information about how to access your mSuite5 system's Provisioning Portal.  For more information, click here.

Alternatively, users can download it directly to their Windows Mobile devices by browsing to get.commontime.com

This is a simple program that will connect to the Provisioning Portal on your new mSuite5 system so that the mSuite5 client software can be downloaded to the device. After downloading the new mSuite5 client software but before installing it, the utility will:

1.Reset the replicators (remove all replicated Lotus Notes email and PIM data from the device) to make sure that there is no accidental duplication or loss of data.
2.Stop the mSuite services that are running on the device.
3.Delete the mSuite software from the device.
4.Delete the mSuite registry settings from the device.
5.Remove any CommonTime certificates from the Personal and Root certificate stores on the device.

This in effect removes all traces of the previous mSuite 4 client.

As soon as the new mSuite5 client software is installed, it will connect to the mSuite5 server and perform a Reconciliation.  This will restore all the Lotus Notes email and PIM data to the mobile device.

If you have legacy devices such as PalmOS devices or Windows Mobile 2003 devices, you will need to continue to run an mSuite 4.3 installation until these devices have been retired.
